Effective date: January 1, 2026  •  Last updated: January 1, 2026

Short version: Unscrabbler does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information through its word-finding tool. All computations run entirely inside your browser. Third-party services embedded in this site — Google AdSense and the Free Dictionary API — operate under their own privacy policies, which are summarized and linked below.

1. Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the websites located at unscrabbler.com and unscrabbler.net (collectively, the "Site"), owned and operated by the Unscrabbler website owner (referred to as "we," "us," or "our"). It describes what information is and is not collected when you visit or use the Site, how any collected information is used, and your rights with respect to that information.

By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Site.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

The Unscrabbler word-finding tool is designed as a fully client-side application. This means the word search engine, scoring calculations, and result rendering all happen inside your own browser. The following data is explicitly not collected, transmitted, or stored by us:

We do not operate a database, user account system, analytics backend, or any server-side logging mechanism tied to user activity on the word finder tool. We have no record of what you search, and no ability to reconstruct your usage history.

3. Technical Information

When you visit the Site, your browser makes standard HTTP requests to load the page, its assets (CSS, JavaScript, fonts), and the word dictionary file. These requests are served by our web hosting provider, Hostinger International Ltd., and pass through their standard server infrastructure. Hostinger may retain access logs including IP addresses, browser type, referring URL, and request timestamps as part of standard web server operation. This is governed by Hostinger's Privacy Policy.

The word dictionary used by Unscrabbler (the ENABLE word list) is fetched from a public GitHub repository on your first visit. GitHub may log this network request as part of their infrastructure. See GitHub's Privacy Statement for details.

Google Fonts are loaded from Google's CDN. Google may collect data from this request. See the Google Privacy Policy for details.

4. Third-Party Services

The Site integrates third-party services that operate under their own independent privacy policies. We have no control over, and accept no responsibility for, the data practices of these services. Below is a summary of each service and a link to their respective privacy documentation.

Google AdSense
This Site displays advertisements served by Google AdSense (Google LLC). Google AdSense uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site and other sites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Google AdSense also participates in the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework.

Free Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev)
When you click the "Definition" button on any word result, Unscrabbler sends a request to the Free Dictionary API at dictionaryapi.dev to retrieve the definition. This request includes the word you clicked (not your full search query). The Free Dictionary API is an open-source, community-maintained project. Definitions are cached in your browser session so the same word is only looked up once per visit.
Free Dictionary API →
Google Fonts
This Site loads typefaces (Playfair Display, DM Sans, Courier Prime) from Google Fonts, hosted on Google's CDN. When your browser loads a page, it makes a request to Google's servers to retrieve the font files. Google may collect basic network data from this request including your IP address.

Hostinger International Ltd. (Web Hosting)
The Site is hosted on Hostinger's infrastructure. As with all web hosting providers, Hostinger's servers process HTTP requests made by your browser to load this Site and may retain standard server access logs. We do not have direct access to or control over Hostinger's logging practices.

5. Cookies

Unscrabbler itself does not set any first-party cookies. We do not use cookies for analytics, session tracking, login, or any other purpose under our direct control.

However, third-party services embedded in the Site — specifically Google AdSense — do use cookies and similar tracking technologies (including web beacons and pixel tags) to serve and measure advertisements. These are third-party cookies set by Google, not by us.

Managing cookies: You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block third-party cookies specifically while allowing first-party cookies, which is an effective way to limit advertising tracking while not affecting core site functionality. For EU/UK residents, Google AdSense participates in the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework and will request consent before serving personalized ads where required by applicable law.

For more information about how Google uses cookies in advertising, visit Google's Advertising Technologies page.

6. Children's Privacy

This Site is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because the Site's word-finding tool collects no personal information from any user, this protection is inherent to the Site's design.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through this Site in some way, please contact us using the information below and we will take appropriate steps to address the situation.

8. Changes to This Policy

We reserve the right to update or replace this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy. Your continued use of the Site after any changes to this Policy constitutes your acceptance of those changes.

Material changes — such as the introduction of new data collection practices or third-party integrations — will be reflected in a revised policy with a new effective date.

9. Contact

If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, or about the privacy practices of this Site in general, please contact us through the domain contact information associated with unscrabbler.com. As this Site collects no personal data through its own systems, most privacy inquiries relate to the third-party services listed in Section 4, which are best addressed directly with those providers using the links above.
